| downshift as you coast down a mountain and let the compression work to slow the car AS gravity and the weight of the car work directly against it to speed it up? ...or downshift during normal driving conditions on relatively flat roads where the compression works to slow the car while you are braking (somewhat less than if car was in neutral) to speed up the deceleration? I dont know about how some of you downshift, but I ALWAYS downshift, it's as second nature to me as putting on my seatbelt, and it's not like I am dropping it into 2nd gear @ 50mph. You are downshifting way too early/aggressively if you are above 3500 rpms. I doubt my rpms are even that high, I'll have to take a look on my way to work tomorrow.
